Forced Destination: Central American migrants and refugees trapped in Mexico
Thousands of refugees and migrants fleeing horrific violence in Central America pass through Mexico in transit to find safety in the United States. Harsh US immigration policies are now making Mexico a forced final destination for many. But Mexico is ill-equipped to protect these vulnerable people, who are often preyed upon by criminal groups.
At La 72, a shelter for refugees and migrants in the town of Tenosique, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams care for people stranded in Mexico, trapped between violence to the south and the threat of detention and deportation to the north.
